To the Petroleum Packaging Council, an association providing technical leadership and education to the petroleum packaging industry.

For five decades the Petroleum Packaging Council has served petroleum packaging professionals exclusively as their premiere technical trade association.

President's Message

Houston, there’s no place I’d rather be!

Famous words from an old Gatlin Brothers song fit the tone for the PPC Spring Meeting.

This meeting came bucking out of the chutes literally with a trip to the world famous Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. All seventy-six members had big eyes throughout the night that rolled into a Josh Turner concert and ended the evening with music and a country style steak dinner.

Our attendance was strong despite the economic downturn. With 176 registered attendees, 26 of these being new to the organization, and over a dozen one-day attendees, we managed to fill the halls of the Marriott with PPC folks. Keynote speaker Don Reynolds delivered the low down on the economy, as to why we are where we are, when we will pull out and what to begin reinvesting in. I would be happy to fill you in on the investing suggestions, but they have seemed to slip my memory. Guess you should have been there…

The technical presentations and sessions were outstanding and extremely informative. The new Voice of the Customer session set new attendance standards and members were requesting more presentations of this nature from the up and down side of the petroleum business. A Global Committee has been re-instituted to assist the PPC in developing more of a global focus. This committee will be headed by Christian Musiol of Bericap out of Hamburg, Germany. I ask for your full support in getting these committees back up and running. This request for support holds for all our Technical committees. Sign up for a committee today!

For years the PPC’s tagline was People, Participation, and Cooperation. I have always felt that participation and cooperation were somewhat redundant. If you participate, you are cooperating…we at the PPC communicate. We bring pertinent information to our members; we provide networking (opportunities and so forth). We communicate. In that same vein, I am making a change to our tag line. I hope you agree that People, Participation, and Communication better describes the organization we all support.

We continue to push forward with cost reducing initiatives for the PPC. I was present at the Regular Member meeting and the Associate Member meeting when both groups agreed that going forward with offering sponsorships is the prudent thing to do. The Sponsorship Task Force has submitted an initial list of possible savings that the Board of Directors will look at during our June board meeting. There is more on this to come, along with our continued green initiative.

The PPC continues to experience members that are not adhering to the PPC Code of Ethics. These are a very simple list of items that, in fairness to all members, must be followed. Non-conformance to these rules can and will lead to loss of your companies PPC membership. Let’s all review these guidelines and be certain they are followed.

The recent Newsflash contained a brilliant article on Long Beach, CA. I hope you all can make it to this meeting, which promises to be a huge success.

See you in August!

Respectfully

Ron Keever

Petroleum Packaging Council President
