Denver is rolling out the red carpet for the Petroleum Packaging Council’s 75th Anniversary Fall Meeting this August. Known for its lively culture, stunning views, and walkable streets, the city offers plenty to delight visitors. Here are ten fun things to do that add a little local flavor to your time in the Mile High City.

  1. Red Rocks Amphitheatre
Let’s start with the obvious: Red Rocks is a Colorado icon. Whether you catch a concert under the stars or hike the area trails, this natural amphitheater carved into stunning red sandstone is a must-see.
  2. Denver Botanic Gardens
Oasis is the word. Just minutes from downtown, the Denver Botanic Gardens offers a lush, peaceful escape filled with curated plant life from around the world. It’s a beautiful spot to slow down and reconnect with nature.
  3. City Park
At City Park, you can rent bikes or paddle boats, walk or run on scenic trails, and take in plenty of mountain views. It’s also home to the Denver Zoo and the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.
  4. Explore Denver’s Vibrant Art Scene
Denver is alive with creativity, boasting a rich mix of galleries, museums, and immersive art experiences that appeal to all tastes. From intimate local galleries showcasing emerging artists to major museums with extensive collections, there’s always something new to discover. Whether you prefer traditional works, contemporary installations, or interactive exhibits, Denver’s art scene offers plenty of inspiration and surprises.
  5. Union Station
More than just a transportation hub, Union Station is a lively gathering place. Inside, you’ll find cozy lounges, local restaurants, coffee shops, and the Terminal Bar (set inside the station’s old ticket counter). Markets and other events are often held here as well.
  6. Larimer Square
Denver’s oldest block is also one of its most charming. Larimer Square is a walkable, twinkle-lit street lined with fun shops and tasty restaurants. It’s a great place to enjoy a memorable meal or to take a scenic stroll.
  7. The Denver Mint
In this historical building, you can take a free tour of the minting process for coins. Only two US mints offer tours – Denver being one of these. These tours fill up quickly and you do need reservations. A truly unique experience to see this process in person!
  8. South Pearl Street
This hidden gem in Platt Park is full of character, offering cozy coffee shops, cute restaurants, and local boutiques. On Sundays in summer, the South Pearl Street Farmers Market is one of the best in town, with everything from fresh produce to handmade goods.
  9. & 10. Confluence Park + REI Flagship Store
Where the South Platte River and Cherry Creek meet, Confluence Park is a hub for outdoor activity right in the heart of the city. Just steps away is the massive REI Flagship Store. Even if you’re not gear shopping, it’s worth popping in to see the indoor climbing wall, grab a coffee from the in-store café, or just be immersed in Denver’s outdoor culture.
We look forward to seeing you all soon in Denver and celebrating 75 years of the PPC!
